Omar Sosa - An evening at SFJazz
I had recently listened to an ARR interview where he spoke about how India lacks state of the art facilities to have an excellent listening experience.
Jazz has been growing on me slowly. Robert Miles and other nominations that my audiophile hobby brings in.
I have an equally crazy daughter who loves music just as much. I decided that she will enjoy the auditory experience at SFJazz. As an Indian parent in America, I gingerly presented the idea to her and she accepted. Man, parening a teenager in the US is crazy.
AI Drive
I had recently listened to Naval's talk on how AI is like a motor cycle for the mind. I have been using AI at work, and have felt it. I could hear the resonances of his talk in my experience. Niya has a negative view of AI, and how the AI is bad, and takes away from the artists.
During the drive, I shared my personal experience of how my day to day work has changed radically. She listened through all that as she had no choice. Once all my experience was communicated, I set that as the backdrop, and let Naval do the talking for the next hour.
Burmese restaurant
We shared a 30 $ fried rice. Similar quality to the burmese restaurant at Concord which was one third the price. San Francisco costs.
Omar Sosa
The dinner was done. Time for jazz. Omar Sosa was just brilliant. I didn't know till the point I booked the tickets. I knew that he was nominated for Oscars seven times.
I like to walk in with a clean slate when experiencing any art. I should know that it is going to be good and that is it.
Omar Sosa had a happy vibe about him. Four artists got the audience enjoying.
These guys would perform high energy pieces, and take in loud applauses from the audience. You will think they are done, and then they go back and do more fun and energy pieces, the applause and then they go back again.
If this is going to go for 3 hours, with a 35 $ ticket, I would prefer this to a movie ticket. Economics had it right. After the applause at 2 hours, Sosa did not come back.
While I had clapped hands for performances as acknowledgement, on the last one, I was playing my part to hold the rhythm of the claps. Full claps. I am not going to slow down and let down Sosa. He is my brother. I wouldn't do that to him. Niya was also clapping.
A fun night.
